Black in Historic Preservation Grant Fund Awarded to African Am. Heritage Preservation Fund, Inc.
Congratulations are in order to the African American Heritage Preservation Foundation, Inc. (AAHPF), a US-based not-for-profit organization. They are the recipient of the Inaugural Black in Historic Preservation Grant, administered by wrkSHäp | kiloWatt, LLC!
wrkSHäp | kiloWatt approved their application for funding in the amount of $1,500.00 to support:
Black students studying architecture at Howard University in Washington, DC, who will complete AAHPF’s internship program. The students will work under the supervision of a Howard University professor and History Associates, Inc. to catalog, digitize, and learn overall records management of Stanton Family Cemetery in Buckingham County, Virginia.
As AAHPF President Renee Ingram shared in AAHPF’s grant application:
This well-preserved African American rural cemetery is on the National Register of Historic Places and the first free African American privately held cemetery to be placed on the National Register and the Commonwealth of Virginia Landmarks Registry in the United States.
It is an honor to support this important archival project for the heritage preservation of African American history in the US which is also an enriching opportunity for Black students who are studying architecture.
