Adrienne Smoot-Edwards

It’s #WomenInConstruction Week where we #ChooseToChallenge the perceptions of who are the people who build and take care of our built environment. In honor of all these things, Black in Historic Preservation is highlighting a woman in construction from our network who has been active for over 20 years in the field - Adrienne V. Smoot-Edwards.

Adrienne is carrying the family tradition of construction contractors as the owner of her own contracting company, The Phoenix Restoration Group, Inc. The company specializes in the restoration of architectural woodwork, shutters, windows, doors, hardware, and ornamental metal, as well as painting and finishes.

In the Black Preservationists Directory, she shared a highlight from her portfolio of work: Restoration of the peristyle doors, windows, railings, and skylight at the US Capitol Dome.

"Adrienne is the CEO and President of The Phoenix Restoration Group, a general contracting company that specializes in historic restoration, including window and door restoration, metalwork, carpentry, and painting. Since 2005, The Phoenix Restoration Group has been a front-runner in the building restoration industry, working on the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, President Lincoln's Cottage, and other historic buildings throughout the Washington, DC area.

Prior to establishing her business, Adrienne obtained nearly twenty years of construction management and accounting experience working for a variety of construction entities. She is a native Washingtonian and holds a B.S. in Organizational Management from Columbia Union College."
